Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) are important fields of study that drive innovation and development and can be introduced to students at all levels. Introducing practical STEM education to young people is essential in the provision of unique interactive and engaging learning experiences. In the study of STEM subjects, students solve problems, think critically and creatively which help them develop vital skills that can be applied outside the classroom.
The Ghana Science & Tech Explorer Prize (GSTEP) Challenge offers young Ghanaians the opportunity to learn and apply STEM knowledge and skills in an interactive and engaging way. Students are encouraged to identify unique problems around them and develop solutions to these challenges using STEM. The program provides students with resources, kits and technical assistance to enable them develop the solutions to the problems they identified. The knowledge and skills acquired are practical and applicable in and outside the classroom.
In the provision of technical knowledge to the students and the development of prototypes that address the problems identified, participating teams are each provided with a technical coach. The technical coach provides the assigned team with technical guidance and assistance in the designing, making and assembling of their prototypes. Coaches also have the opportunity to develop and acquire new knowledge and skills as they research into the problems and solutions identified, and explore opportunities to ensure the successful development of prototypes.
Applications for the 2023 GSTEP Technical Coach Recruitment are open from now till Friday 14th April 2023. To be eligible to apply to be a technical coach, interested applicants must have an Engineering background. Engineering students are welcome to apply. Interested applicants must be highly motivated and technical to their approach in innovation. Applicants should understand the innovation process and have experience in building innovation.
