On Tuesday, 25th February 2025, the Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Prize (GSTEP) consortium met with key government officials to explore deeper collaboration in advancing STEM education for young Ghanaians. The delegation engaged in strategic discussions with Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, and Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), focusing on expanding access to hands-on STEM education, bridging learning gaps, and aligning GSTEP’s work with Ghana’s national education agenda.
During the meeting, GSTEP presented its research findings and insights from two key reports:
- “Practical STEM Education in Ghana: Barriers and Opportunities” – which examines the challenges students face in accessing quality STEM education and proposes actionable solutions.
- “Design and Implementation Report” – which provides a roadmap for expanding GSTEP’s impact across Ghana.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu commended GSTEP for its impactful work and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that equip young Ghanaians with essential STEM skills. He emphasized that STEM education is key to national development and encouraged the consortium to expand its reach to underserved regions, particularly in northern Ghana.
Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis echoed this sentiment, assuring GSTEP of GES’s collaboration in addressing gaps in STEM education and working together to scale the initiative to more schools across the country. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that students in deprived areas also have access to quality STEM learning experiences.
This engagement marks an important milestone in GSTEP’s journey to make STEM education more accessible and practical for students across Ghana. By working closely with government agencies and education stakeholders, GSTEP aims to equip the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers with the skills needed for the future.
As GSTEP continues its mission, the consortium remains committed to collaborating with educators, policymakers, and industry leaders to create a robust ecosystem for STEM learning in Ghana.
