Participants of the GSTEP Challenge in the Greater Accra Region, Including the Winner, 1st Runner-Up, and Other Top Categories, Receive STEM Resources

The Greater Accra Homecoming events took place from June 3rd to June 7th. The GSTEP team visited winning teams in the region, including the top-performing teams from the 2023 GSTEP Challenge. Notable awardees included Get Group from John Wesley Methodist Basic School, winner of the challenge, and AquaSentry from Services Primary/JHS, the first runner-up. Additional award recipients included Xavier Genius from St. Francis Xavier R/C Basic School and Science Breakers from Accra College Of Education Demonstration School.

 

The events covered schools from Accra Metropolitan, La Dade-Kotopon Municipal, and Ayawaso North Municipal. During the John Wesley ceremony, the winning team, Global Engineering Technology (GET) Group, and their school received STEM materials and devices worth GHS 70,000, fulfilling the promised award. The package included essential items like microscopes, pH scales, weighing scales, petri dishes, 3D printers, laptops, projectors, robotics kits, and other school supplies.

Team Aqua Sentry, the first runner-up, received GHS 45,000 worth of STEM materials and school supplies, while other category winners received tailored STEM resources for their schools.

The GSTEP team’s visit was met with appreciation from students and staff, with institution heads and staff expressing gratitude during the presentation. Keren Beecham, Programme Manager for the DreamOval Foundation, spoke with the GSTEP teams, discussing the presented items and their potential uses. She encouraged  students to take their studies seriously, especially in STEM subjects, and to anticipate the second phase of the challenge prize.

The Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Challenge aims to provide access to quality STEM materials and equipment, inspiring young people to pursue STEM careers and paving the way for a brighter future.
